Since early childhood I have enjoyed working with my hands.  Building and designing residential projects has served me well through these many years.

Much has happened in the past 37 years. It is my intent to share with you those experiences, encouraging all of you, my fellow remodelers and builders, to become more efficient in your business, so you can create more wealth and enjoy better lives.  At Remodeler Biz there will always be fresh information about how to conduct business, how legislation is affecting our bottom line, and what to plan for in the future.

My first tip to you is to network.  Use all of the many ways to meet other people and tell them about why you are the one, and only one to call.

Thirty-seven years ago I decided that I wanted to build. That was the start of my career in construction.  I apprenticed as a carpenter under an excellent large construction company that excelled in commercial and residential work. This helped expose me to both sides of construction. I trained under their excellent lead carpenters for four and a half years. Within one more year I started my own company, and have been self-employed since.

At first we framed homes doing small remodeling jobs to fill the gaps. As we started doing more and more remodeling, renovation became our specialty. There was a period where we renovated dentist and doctor offices, as well as some restaurants. We started doing more design work on each project, so we decided that this was our niche. Design then build is where we have been ever since.

The NAHB and the NKBA and its members have been especially helpful to me and my business.  Through them I was exposed to many opportunities, such as teaching seminars, going to the Builder Show and other conferences, all of which has paid off in spades.

Because of my involvement with many associations I have received numerous awards, that continue to add to my credibility.  Among those are three “Chrysalis Awards”, four times the “Remodeler of the Year” within our local council and the coveted “NAHB Remodeler of the Month” award. I have also had the privilege to lead our local Home Builders Association as President and to be chairman of our Remodeler’s Council.  Teaching and leading have helped me grow as a person, as well as create a top-notch remodeling company.

Yes, I do make a commission on some of the products I write about. But I write about them because they will be beneficial to you and your company. You don't pay a cent more for the product, so it's a win-win situation. So thanks in advance for helping me keep Remodeler Biz going.
